Based in the village of Collingham, near Wetherby, Collingham Band was founded in 1995 when Diana Lee, a local music teacher, was asked to gather a group of musicians to play at the annual village Gala. The Band quickly became established and over the years has grown to a flourishing Wind Band of around 40 enthusiastic wind and brass players (between the ages of 12 to 80!) who travel from a wide area to perform and rehearse together.
Collingham Band has gone from strength to strength but our underlying principles and aspirations remain the same: to encourage musicians of all standards and ages to play and experience the joy of music making together.
Collingham Band’s repertoire is extensive, and the choice of pieces for performance can be tailored to the needs of individual events.
The Band enjoys playing in bandstands and a variety of locations ,
both indoors and out, where our music provides a background to other activities, for example: fêtes, galas and shopping centres, a moving audience is provided with snatches of well-known themes to carry with them, ranging from popular music to music from the shows.
Each year at Remembrance, Collingham Band plays from a repertoire of appropriate music, and at Christmas from a wide variety of traditional carols and easily recognised seasonal popular music.
Collingham Band has provided themed performances for folk festivals, cycling events and national occasions such as the Diamond Jubilee
in 2012, the Armistice Remembrance in 2018, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 and more recently at the Coronation of King Charles III in May 2023, and more recently the 80th anniversary D-Day celebrations in June.
